Singapore’s Labor Market Continued to Recover in 4th Quarter of 2021

Advanced estimates have shown that the labor market in Singapore continued to recover during the fourth quarter of 2021 as the economy grew. Resident employment grew at a faster pace and non-resident employment increased for the first time in two years, leading to a significant increase in total employment. Unemployment rates also continued to improve. This effect was driven partly by the seasonal hiring during the year-end peak period in food and beverages services and retail trade. After consecutive quarters of decline, these industries saw an increase in employment for the first time. Resident employment also continued to grow steadily in sectors such as information and communications and financial services. There was strong demand for IT and digital solutions, on top of games and software publishing activities. The financial services sector benefited partly owing to fund management activities. ...
