An Outstanding Read on Federal Government Reach as First Practiced by Pres. Lincoln

Post by claireokc »

Thinking about Federal government overreach is a clear pastime these days as the overreach is so prolific - in almost every aspect of our lives. But taking this topic from this article from the point of view of the President during the Civil War, is a completely different take, and something worth considering.

For me what's clear is that these were completely different times. The other thing that's clear is that either exaggeration of states' rights or federal overreach is not good. There's a balance in between, and hopefully, we can find that balance and keep the pendulum from swinging so wildly from one direction to another. Without all states intact in the US, the US doesn't work well. At the same time supporting the feds at the huge expense of the states doesn't work either.
